Gita, Director of Krishnaswamy Associates (P) Ltd, has directed many Television serials for telecast both in India and abroad. WHEN THE GODS DANCE, the English version of AADELENUM JEEVANADHI and NAATYANJALI, two serials on Indian dance, directed by Gita along with her sister Lata for SINGAPORE TV-12 has won the CERTIFICATE OF CREATIVE EXCELLENCE award at the U.S. International film and video festival in Chicago in the year 2000. She has also won a similar award for her choreography and performance of Sri Aurobindo’s SAVITRI from the US International Film Festival. Her directorial venture VISAALAM, (52-part Tamil serial, DD1, 2002-2003) with story by Dr.S.Krishnaswamy, was a grand success winning accolades from all strata of viewers. Other directorial ventures include BUDDHA JATAKAM (13-part Buddhist mythology) and OORARINDA RAHASIYAM 2001 (36-part short stories serial), which also featured several of her short stories. As a writer, her short stories have been adapted for television and her articles have been published in magazines. A prolific writer, Gita has a self published book Kaivalya to her credit. She contributes to the growth magazine Frozen Thoughts which currently features her series When Science met God… which explores a dialogue between philosophical ideas and scientific facts. One of the readers of this series recently commented “The present series of articles on God and Science is just mind-blowing!! The analogies, the clarity, the confidence, I must say every line delights me…” Gita also writes to other magazines like Eves Touch on a regular basis.
Inspired by her parents Dr.S.Krishnaswamy and Dr.Mohana Krishnaswamy’s encouragement, Gita has performed lead roles in many of her home productions. She performed as the heroine of Krishnaswamy Associates’ Hindi Tele-film THYAGABHOOMI, a re-make of her grandfather Film Pioneer K.Subrahmanyam’s original classic banned by the British in 1938. Her performance as Kannagi in Krishnaswamy Associates’ Hindi T.V. Serial, UPASANA (based on Silappadikaram and Manimegalai) prompted Silambu Chelvar Dr.Ma.Po.Si to proclaim, “Kannagi means a person who emotes with her eyes. After seeing Gita’s performance, I wonder if the original Kannagi had eyes as expressive as hers!” Reflecting these sentiments and press euphoria for her performance, H.E. Dr. Channa Reddy, Governor of Tamil Nadu, conferred the title ‘KAPPIYAK KALAIMANI’ on her.
Gita is an accomplished Bharathanatyam dancer who has been giving performances to many a distinguished audience since the tender age of nine, since her arrangetram in 1981. Disciples of Narasimhachari and Vasanthalakshmi, Gita, has been choreographing her own dance productions for over fifteen years now winning rave reviews from connoisseurs and critics alike. Her performance at the Rashtrapati Bhavan for the then president of India H.E Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam received the approbation of that elite audience and was featured in INDRA DHANUSH a special publication of the Rashtrapati Bhavan on performing artistes. Thematic dance presentations choreographed & performed by Gita along with her sister Lata include Aurobindo’s SAVITRI, ROSE OF SHARON on the life of Jesus Christ, Select songs of SANT KABIR, BHARATIYIN VISWAROOPAM on rare songs of the poet Subramanya Bharati, VAIBOGAME on celestial weddings and AVADARITHAN SIDDHARTHAN on the making of the Buddha. Every presentation of theirs ensures elevation of the human spirit of the highest order.
